Good view, but oh I am nervous

So this morning, three dudes showed up at my door, one of whom bore a distinct resemblance to Matthew MacConaughey and yes, I drooled a bit until I figured out that he was here to paint my house and not, ummmm, well, enhance my life.

Fortunately, they have all provided a lovely point of view today, a nice visual distraction for a bored, lonely, housewife like myself, say.

Unfortunately, said dudes are short on conversation skills, and even shorter on brains. They sort of know how to paint, but---not really. I'm used to painters who do the trim very carefully, either using painter's tape to edge it, or very carefully cutting in the edges. These guys have done neither. Instead, they have slapped LOTS of blue paint on the trim, and gone over the yellow wall edges by frigging inches. They have told me that they'll fix it later.

They tell me it will all work out just fine, and I should not worry.

Sigh.....yellow latex paint will not cover dark blue semi-gloss, oh good-looking air-headed people. It just doesn't.

Oh well, something for me to fix later, I guess?

  3. This doesn't sound very auspicious to me. I say fire them, and go rent a Val Kilmer flick.

  4. i do not like the dumb. i know it is uncharitable of me. but when the dumb leave work for the pregnant to do, despite being paid to make everything work out fine...? oooh. i get grumpy.

i, um, have a few dumb professionals in my own life right now, in case you couldn't tell i was projecting. er, sympathizing.

  5. Oh, it makes me so angry when you pay someone to come in and do a job you can't do, don't know how to do or don't want to do and then the work does not live up to expectations. I've had this experience with both landscapers and people working in my bathroom on the tile. Ugh. It's so frustrating. I feel for you!

  6. No way, dude-- make them fix it. That's the thing they get paid to do. Plus, they may learn something.

  7. Trying to get painters/plumbers/contractors to fix their mistakes is not much fun. You can only say "No, that isn't the way it's supposed to look" so many times. Best of luck.

  8. Others have said it better, so I'll just cross my fingers that the small enhancement they brought was not far outweighed by the 'fixing' required.
On the flipside I had a painter bring a summer student who took almost an entire day to tape my french doors.

  10. Good luck with the painters... at least there's one compensation if the work doesn't go well.

I hope your friend's boy continues to recover/that they get to the bottom of it.

  11. Having worked in construction (management), I know the damage that paint fumes do to a person's brain. If painters weren't fried to begin with, they get so very quickly.

That said, even my most fumed-out painters knew better than to make themselves that kind of mess and claim to fix it later -- it's just too much extra work.

  12. Holy crap, where did you find these people?

Sorry they're such idiots. Guess they really are just eye candy.

  13. Oh no! You should not have to fix that! You should definitely make them do it right or get someone else.

  14. No fixey, no money!

But you'd probably best get a lawyer to write it out in a long letter on fancy paper for it to work.
