In exactly 7 days and 5 minutes I get my son back. Sorry I didn't reply to earlier questions, but I've been spending the last 24 hours in the bathroom, my intestines having been taken over by the bug from hell.
I'm sooooo freakin' sick I think that I brought it on with the stress of my kid being gone. Or maybe even because of all of our attempts to test drive cars....we have to replace the Volvo in a month and so we're on the "Keep an Open Mind Tour."
Which basically means that Mr.C. has become obsessed with only one kind of car, and I like several others and he doesn't want to admit that we have options and can afford to buy a nice one. Cheap is not my only criteria. It seems to be his only criteria. He likes the Honda Pilot. (Which drives like meh, btw.) I like the Volvo XC90 and the Acura MDX, and maybe the Lexus but we haven't checked it out yet.
Sigh....off to run to the bathroom again.
I'll write more about the cars later.
What do you all drive? Do you like it?
I had a Mercedes ML430 that I adored. Small enough not to be a bull on the road, big enough to fit all the kids, and zippy.
ReplyDeleteI sold it to my brother and now drive DH's Chev Tahoe. It took some getting used to as it's wider than my ML was, but I'm liking it now too. There's lots of flexibility with seating, which it seems we're going to need.
What I drive will do you no good-- it's Volvo V50, too small for your family, I think. I like it because it's still a wagon, so lots of room in the trunk, and it's a stick. I am not sure about Canada, but they are phasing out this model in stick here. Makes me very sad. Only sedans will have the stick option in the States starting this fall. Phew. Very upsetting. I don't want to trade mine in yet, for several reasons, one of them being that Volvo is finally working on hybrid and plug ins, so I might be able to hold out until they bring one or the other to market. A girl can dream, right. But my car also has the built in booster seats in the back, and I am not sure how the infant seat will go in and whether that will mean I will lose one of the pop up boosters as an option. If it does, it will make me sad for sure, as I like the flexibility I now have to just pick up one of Monkey's friends at a moment's notice. Like I said, a long comment of absolutely no use to you.
ReplyDeleteOh, wait, one useful thing-- unlike most SUVs and raised wagons, XC90 is unflippable, if the SCS (stabilization control system) is engaged.
Honda Civic. Very fuel-efficient. Used to drive an assortment of Volvos; they were great, pretty quiet and comfortable, and really really safe. (Once my mom's was totaled by an idiot 16-year-old who turned left without looking, and the worst injury was a dislocated thumb.)
ReplyDeleteUg. sorry you are feeling crap.
ReplyDeleteThe banker had his mind made up about the Lexus. I complained the whole time we were test driving that it didn't matter bc I knew he was going to buy it anyway and I was pregnant so I would rather have been sleeping. I negotiated that he could buy it if he bought the hybrid.
We test drove the crv and it drove like an truck with no suspension, so I imagine the pilot is the same.
what about they toyota Highlander? the rav drove better than the CRV imo.
so I love my lexus. I should have taken you for a spin, but it is NOT big enough for three kids in the back and it still pains me to think of how much we spent on it.
My car is most definitely not a family car - it's a Ford Puma and although I've had it about three years, I still love it!! It's a rather curvy car and it so much better than my previous car - rather worn out!
ReplyDeleteI am just not too worried about what I drive, as long as it's reliable and not too big. At the moment it's a VW Golf.
ReplyDeleteDH however is car craaaaazy, and I dread the time we decide to change car as it involves long, boring nights of HIM hogging the computer, reading minute detail of every car.
I love my 1996 Saab, but the headliner is beginning its fall from grace and the shifter button that says 1-2-3-4-5-R came off in my hand the other day. So I need a new car.
ReplyDeleteLexus 400h, the hybrid. Like it a lot, but can't see how you'd get three children in the back.
ReplyDeleteI have a VW Passat wagon, but you can't get three kids in the back unless they aren't in carseats, which with the new regulations will take FOREVER.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you're sick, GI bugs are horrible. Hope it goes away PDQ.
Only a little longer till you get your son back...You're almost there (but I know it will be hard to wait).
I have the Acura RDX, I like it a lot. It's our second acura (tsx also) and I enjoy the comfort of the seats the best. Ahhh my back hurts, I think I should go sit in it.
ReplyDeleteOk I have a dodge grand caravan. I said I would never ever be a minivan type but boy do I love it. It rides like a dream and can fit the kids some friends and all the crap we need to haul around.
ReplyDelete350Z convertible and love it. Clearly not a family mobile!
ReplyDelete2008 Kia Rondo EX V6 -- we love it sooooo much! It's perfect for our two dogs -- they can ride in the huge cargo area in the back, and the back passenger seats are VERY roomy -- very comfortably accommodates 2 adults. I lurve the seat warmers so much, and the handling and speed is also great - it's overall a very fast vehicle, which is fun to have sometimes. ;)
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't think it would be great for 3 kids though -- but it's perfect for us with 2 crazy dogs....and if we ever have a baby that lives, it will be good for that, too...... (btw, the 3rd row seating is super tiny, and I can't imagine anyone actually finds it that useful -- I find all the 3rd row "add on" seating in all SUV's these days pretty hilarious. I figure if people really want to cart around 7 people all the time {I never will, even when we have kids}, then they should just buy a minivan or suburban - although since there aren't any hybrid or electric minivans or suburbans, they aren't really a viable option for anyone on this planet when it comes right down to it.)
My husband needs a new vehicle next, and he'll be getting a Hybrid this time. (We haven't decided which one yet, but I have to say I'm not a fan of spending exorbitant amounts of money on any kind of vehicle, even if one has the cash laying around...I'd rather that money go into a better home/home upgrades, pursuit of creative arts, etc. :) )
What I really, really want is one of those little tiny Smart cars. A lot of people around here have them and they're totally impractical and probably extremely dangerous, but oh-so-so cute.
ReplyDeleteA Mini Cooper. Which I love. And which has room for one three-year-old in Britax and one nine-week-old in Maxi Cosi... But nowhere for a third... Unless old enough for front seat.
ReplyDeleteLike Niobe, I YEARN for a Smart Car. Maybe one day...
We just bought a Volkswagen Eurovan (1998) that comfortably seats 8, with plenty of room for strollers and groceries. I'm still not used to being a bus driver and because you sit so high, every time I turn, I feel like the car is going to turn over onto its side. Scary. I guess I'll get used to it. My dream is to have a little compact car that I can just jump into and go wherever I want. Getting into the bus is heavy and it doesn't really make me feel like going out (not that there's really anywhere to go here, especially in the crazy heat).
ReplyDeleteBTW, sorry for my lack of comments - I spent 2 weeks in the US recently.
